The Best Skincare for Teens 2021

Becoming a teenager is awesome, but what's not so awesome is the acne that comes with it. Skincare is hard to navigate, especially as a teenager. We're here to give you a simple step by step routine that will help you overcome the acne that comes with puberty.

Social media can fool you into thinking you need a 10 step skin care routine, but at a young age, it's best to start off simple and not irritate your skin with so many products. You can achieve clear skin in as little as 3 steps twice a day.

The first step of any routine is starting with a clean base. If you have been wearing makeup all day, it is important to take it off before going to bed. We recommend using a micellar water. Micellar water is a more gentle alternative to makeup wipes. If you aren't wearing makeup or you are starting your morning routine, you can skip this step.

Next, use a gentle cleanser that won't irritate your skin (cleanser is another word for face wash). Using a gentle cleanser should be the first step in your morning and evening routine. We recommend the Bioderma Sensibo Mild Cleansing Foaming Gel. This cleanser is affordable and is good for every skin type.

The second and most important step, whether your skin is dry or oily, is moisturizing. Yes, oily skin needs moisturizing too. Moisturizers can differ based on what you struggle with. If you have dry skin you should use a hydrating moisturizer like the SkinKure Moisturizer For Dry and Irritated Skin. If you have more oily skin, you should use a lighter moisturizer like the Bioderma Atoderm Nuritive Nourishing Cream. This moisturizer has a non-greasy formula, so it won't contribute to excess oil on your face.

Lastly, to finish up your routine, you need to apply sunscreen. SPF isn't just for the summer but should be used year round. You need to apply SPF in the morning as the last step in your skincare routine to protect from the sun during the day. The sun can be very damaging to your skin, and it is best to start protecting your skin early. A great sunscreen we recommend is the Supergoop! Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50. This sunscreen is great because it's lightweight, non greasy, and won't leave your face looking like your mom just lathered it with sunscreen.

These are your essential steps to formulating a great skincare routine as a teenager. While these steps really are the base of what you need, we have a few bonus steps if you want to further your skin care.

Our first bonus step is for in between step 1 and 2 which is to apply a serum. A great serum is the iS Clinical Hydracool Serum. This serum is great for dry skin, but is light enough for oily skin too. The purpose of serum is to provide more hydration, so if you feel your skin needs more hydration, incorporate this step into your routine.

Another fun and beneficial product to incorporate into any skin care routine are face masks. These are great to use 2-3 times a week. There are different face masks to target every problem. Some really great affordable masks are by Lapcos. Each serves a different purpose whether it's for brightening, hydrating, or purifying, you can find a great mask for your skin type and needs.

Lastly, if you have a pesky pimple, spot treatment is always a great option to target problem areas. The Zitstick Killa Kit is great to zap away those pesky zits in no time. These are great to put on right before bed so you can wake up looking and feeling your best.
