Product Details

Your prescription includes a anti-inflammatory cream that should be applied to the area two times a day to clean, dry skin. Lathering or gel based soaps and cleansers should be avoided until the rash clears. Avoid makeup on the area. Avoid using any cortisone on the area as this may cause the rash to worsen after you stop using it. This rash often takes 2-3 weeks to resolve. If resolution does not occur after 3 weeks, contact your doctor as oral medication may be necessary.

Doctor's Tip

Perioral or periorificial dermatitis can be caused by food. It is often hard to pinpoint the exact culprit however a diet high in dairy and sugar (which includes pasta, breas, sugars etc) may cause a flare. Keeping a food log at the occurrence of the rash may help delineate and exact cause. Cutting down daily and carbs to only one meal a day may help prevent a recurrence. Also wine, beer, and sugary alcoholic drinks can be a known cause of rash flares.
